Last Minute Lulu - Put together on the last afternoon of the last day :D

Locked in a Cellar

G C D
I’m an honest tourist who was ambushed here in Spain
G C D
It’s a sad story but I can’t go home again
G C D7
I was looking out for lodgings but had no funds to pay
G C D7 G
So at midnight I sneaked in through an open dark doorway

I slept like the dead that night, but in the morning when I woke
Someone had locked that door made out of solid oak
With no way to escape from there I took a look around
Things could be worse, I was content for this is what I found

G D7 G
Oh I’m a lucky fellow ‘cause I’m locked inside a cellar
C D
A cellar of the best of Spanish wine
C D7 G
If life just treats me kindly they will never ever find me
D7 C
And I’ll spend my life in this bodego so divine

I’ve been locked in this basement now for almost three years
Though I’m miss my wife I won’t shed any tears
I like the fact she cannot moan when I have a drink or three
But most of all I love that fact that all this wine is free

For breakfast I have Cava, it’s light and has some fizz
By lunchtime something stronger and the Vin Rosado is
In the evening I have two bottles Vino Tinto from Bierzo
And just before I go to bed a large glass Olroso

Oh I’m a lucky fellow ‘cause I’m locked inside a cellar
A cellar full of the very best of Spanish wine
If life just treats me kindly they will never ever find me
And I’ll spend my life in this bodego so divine

But you say that I could not live on a diet of wine alone
That I should have died of hunger many moons ago
Not mentioning the effect that wine would have upon my liver
I just phone up and pretty soon the tapas bar delivers

Lovely song and great story, Tom! I can so well imagine you singing that in a pub, your audience will love it ;) (OOK, maybe not the barkeeper ...)

Some nitpicking:
The chorus could have a bit more glamour, maybe try one or two different chords there.
And in the last verse, the last line falls a bit out of nothing, the story line is great and I think first lines are fine, but maybe leave the third about the liver (true but a couple of tapas won't help the liver anyway with that diet ;)) and start one line early with the tapas delivery

Thanks Anne, the last verse was fitted in using a crowbar. I felt that I needed an ending but even I don't like it.

I like the chorus lyrically but am not happy with the whole song musically. The problem I have is that once I have a tune in my head for a particular song I find it almost impossible to change it.

No Tom, I actually like the last verse, just not the third line of it ;)

The problem I have is that once I have a tune in my head for a particular song I find it almost impossible to change it.

Yes same here. I noticed though that when I'm working longer on a song that I can change some bits at least.

I think it's a very funny song, you should keep it ;).
