Monday Lisa

Postby Ralph Goodson » Wed Jan 17, 2018 9:11 pm

Here's another creepy song I wrote last year before FAWM . Saw a post on FB shared by a friend titled "Monday Lisa",and woke up one morning and made up this song about her. The song references some local places and people in the beginning, and then kind of wanders away.Clifton Chenier was a Zydeco musician and Mr Cedotal built wooden boats and taught boat building at a University in south Louisiana years ago. We recorded this one in November with the Adult Music Club

Monday Lisa
False river tears across the dark water
Whispers from the ghost of Clifton Chenier
My Bonaventure buddies all took it to the house
South on Highway 1, in long forgotten years

Please Mr. Cedotal, help me build a pirogue
Drop me off in King’s Ditch and point me at the Channel
All the way to Wax Lake with whiskey and my blue dog
Out into the Gulf, and throw away the paddle

Ask me how I’ve been, I’ll tell you things are fine
Toss another week down on the garbage pile
Drown it all in gasoline, yeah I’m the one to blame
Strike a kitchen match let it all go up in flames

Lately I been hangin’ out with Monday Lisa
Standing on the corner or waiting on a train
Or sitting at the bar drinking straight Tequila
I tell her that I love her, but she don’t know my name

I take it to the heart when she tells me that she’s leaving
I turn to the wine, but things are just the same
Instead of holding her tight, usually there’s a fistfight
Out behind the dumpster when she’s snorting cocaine

Tuesday’s girl wants to shoot out the lights
Its women and whiskey on Wednesday nights
Thursday night baby just wants to get high
Friday night moonshine makes me go blind

Saturday’s the weekend, when I go off the deep end
Hang with my Fair-weather friends and listen to their lies
Throw all caution to the wind, see how much that I can spend
Sunday morning sun, burns my eyes

Cause lately I been hangin’ out with Monday Lisa
Standing on the corner or waiting on a train
Or sitting at the bar, drinking straight Tequila
I tell her that I love her, but she don’t know my name

I take it to the heart when she tells me that she’s leaving
I turn to the wine, but things are just the same
Instead of holding her tight, usually there’s a fistfight
Out behind the dumpster when tries to eat my brains

She whispers something sweet as I stumble to my feet
She’s draggin’ her knuckles in the turning lane
She doesn’t really speak and she’s swaying to the beat
But you know the flight is over when she gets on the plane
(Chorus)

Hi Ralph,

What can I say that I have not said before! :D

I actually stumbeld across this a few days ago when surfing through Soundcloud, so I had a sneak preview.

You have a good song here and IMHO working with the band has improved your presentation a lot. I felt that often in your own recordings the guitar dominated the voice so listening to the lyrics was difficult.

Your voice comes ascross clearly now and I really like the guitar, but then I am a sucker for guitar riffs and solos. :)

Maybe you should look at some of your back catalogue with the band?

I'm looking forward to listening to lots of good music during FAWM but am a bit apprehensive about my own contribution,

Tom
